Movie Story

Based on the novel, The Man Who Broke the Bank at Monte Carlo by Michael Butterworth, Lucky Stiff is an offbeat, hilarious murder mystery farce, complete with mistaken identities, six million bucks in diamonds and a corpse in a wheelchair. The story revolves around an unassuming English shoe salesman who is forced to take the embalmed body of his recently murdered uncle on a vacation to Monte Carlo. Should he succeed in passing his uncle off as alive, Harry Witherspoon stands to inherit $6,000,000. If not, the money goes to the Universal Dog Home of Brooklyn… or else his uncle’s gun-toting ex!

Music Audition Requirements

Auditions will include the singing of an excerpt from the musical and a testing of vocal ranges. We encourage you to sing “in character.”
Access to excerpts can be found below in Audition Track Recordings. Inside that folder are three directories:

Men || Annabel || Rita

In each directory are 4 files:
1 – The Broadway Cast track of the excerpt you will be singing
2 – The Rehearsal Track of the excerpt (with piano overdubbing the singing melody)
3 – The Rehearsal Track of the excerpt (with no melody overdubbing)
4 – The Libretto Sheet Music of the excerpt.

** Auditions will be sung to #3, the rehearsal track without a melody overdub.
Files #1 and #2 are only for your preparation reference.

All men will sing the first verse of “Lucky”, which is a song that Harry Witherspoon sings (in the libretto, it’s bars 1-47). Women should learn and be prepared to sing for both Rita and Annabel. Annabel’s song is from “Dogs Versus You” (in the libretto, it’s bars 11-38). Rita’s song is from “Rita’s Confession” (in the libretto, it’s bars 1-35). ** Note:: there is also conversational singing by Vinnie. You only need to sing Rita’s lines.
